As soon as I first made it, I had to put it on everything. Bacon sandwiches? Better with million dollar bacon! A salad? Any salad benefits from a crumble of sweet and spicy bacon bits. Grabbed from the fridge and eaten out of hand? Who's stopping you?

Trust me when I say you'll be as obsessed as I am! Use it for gift baskets, top other meals with it, or bring it to a potluck and become star of the show- there's always a good reason to make more Millionaire's Bacon!

How to Make Millionaire's Bacon

  2. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the bacon, fully coating every slice. Pat the sugar down so it's well worked in.

  3. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the bacon is browned and crispy. Remove, and let cool for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack and let cool another 10 minutes.

Air Fryer Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. While it's heating, combine the brown sugar, pepper, cayenne, and pepper flakes in a small bowl.
  2. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the bacon, making sure to pat it into the meat.
  3. Lay the bacon flat in the air fryer basket or tray so it doesn't overlap, then air fry for 8 minutes, checking at 4 to see if it needs to be rearranged.
  4. Remove, let cool 10 minutes, and enjoy!

Millionaire Bacon Tips

  • Make sure to use thick-cut bacon. Thin cuts will burn before the sugar has a chance to melt.
  • Don't get impatient- let the bacon cool completely! This will allow the melted sugar to harden into a caramel coating.
  • Candied bacon is the perfect addition to sandwiches in place of regular bacon, or bundle it up and give it out as a gift! It's also good just eaten plain!
  • Leftover bacon can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, but good luck having any leftovers!

Candied Bacon FAQ

How long does it take to cook bacon in the oven?

Cooked in the oven, bacon takes roughly 30-40 minutes at 375°F. This gives the bacon enough time to melt out some of the fat and get crispy! Check the bacon once it hits 30 minutes to make sure it doesn't overcook.

How to cook bacon in bulk?

The easiest way to cook large amounts of bacon is to do it in the oven in multiple trays! The oven is a whole lot cleaner than cooking bacon on a griddle, and can evenly cook multiple trays of bacon at a time. Just make sure to use baking sheets with racks so air can circulate around the bacon.

What is millionaire bacon?

Millionaire bacon, also known as Million Dollar Bacon or simply candied bacon, is bacon that has been coated in brown sugar and spices before being cooked. This melts the sugar into the bacon fat, creating a layer of melted sugar that hardens into crispy caramel when cooled! It's spicy, sweet, savory, and basically candy.
