Quiche Ham and Cheese

It's hard to think of a more filling, comforting, and nostalgic breakfast than a piping hot ham and cheese quiche! Few smells could get me out of bed as a child quite like the wafting scent of a delicious ham quiche fresh from the oven.

When I had kids of my own, I had to learn to make quiche easy! And that's when I learned about using refrigerated rolls for the crust. They're utterly delicious, totally buttery, and even better, totally mess free.

I wake up early every day, and when I feel like treating myself to a heaping slice of nostalgia, you can bet I'm making this easy ham quiche recipe. Treat yourself to it, and trust me, you'll be making it again and again!

Ham Quiche Recipe Tips

  • You can also use homemade crust for this recipe, or pre-made pie crust. When using either option, prebake the crust for 10 minutes to keep it from getting too soggy.
  • If you can find them, I highly suggest farm eggs! Quiche is a very egg-heavy recipe so the quality of the eggs makes a big difference.
  • Feel free to experiment with the fillings in quiche! I love a simple spinach, ham and cheese quiche, but mushrooms, diced peppers, and onions all make fantastic additions too.
  • Use leftover ham for a truly incredible quiche! Sliced deli ham will work as well, but it won't be quite as flavorful or tender.

Ham Cheese Quiche FAQs

Is milk better than heavy cream for quiche?

The best combination for quiche is a blend of heavy cream and whole milk! This is why I like using half and half, as it's a blend already. Pure heavy cream can make the filling a little too heavy and thick, while pure whole milk can be a little too thin; a blend is just right.

What cheeses are best for quiche?

There's no wrong answer for what cheese to use for quiche! I love a classic cheddar quiche, but swiss cheese, gruyere, or a spicy pepper gouda would all taste fantastic, as well. You can even use a less melty cheese like feta for a Greek twist!

Should quiche crust be prebaked?

When using a homemade crust, it's very important to prebake it so it doesn't get too soggy. This quiche recipe avoids that problem by using refrigerated pie crust, which cooks very quickly and forms a crisp crust without needing to be prebaked!

Can you use cream cheese instead of heavy cream in a quiche?

Cream cheese can be used instead of heavy cream, but it will need to be thinned out with milk. If pure cream cheese is used without any thinner, it will be too thick and not mix in well with the eggs, making for a lumpy quiche!

Quiche with Ham Variations

  • Ham and Swiss Quiche: Swap out the Cheddar cheese for shredded Swiss for a delicious Ham and Swiss quiche!
  • Ham, Mushroom and Swiss Quiche: Saute 2 cups of mushrooms and add them to the egg mixture alongside the spinach, then swap out the Cheddar for Swiss.
  • Ham and Gruyere Quiche: For an extra kick of flavor, swap the Cheddar for Gruyere! It's got an incredible cave-aged flavor that pairs perfectly with eggs.
  • Spicy Ham and Cheese Quiche: Looking for a little more spice? Use a Cheddar with peppers added, or a chili Gouda. For extra kick, add sauteed hatch chilis or diced jalapeno pepper to the egg blend.
