Easter Ham Recipe

There are so many amazing ways to cook ham- trust me, I've tried more than I can count! And yet year after year, I find myself coming back to a classic ham in the oven. It's just so easy, and so, so good!

My favorite thing about baking precooked ham in the oven is that most of the cook time is hands-off, so you can start it early and have plenty of time to whip up some delicious sides.

And best yet, you'll never need to go buy expensive ingredients or appliances to make this perfect ham. The glaze is full of pantry staples and so long as you have an oven, you're all set to make some of the most delicious ham you'll ever eat!

Baked Ham Recipes FAQs

What is the best way to cook precooked ham?

No matter what you heat the ham in, the best way to cook ham is to tent the ham in foil during the first part of the heating process, then add glaze to the ham and liquid to the bottom of the pan for the second half. This will keep the ham moist and make sure it's packed with flavor.

Do you cover ham when you bake it in the oven?

Ham needs to be covered for the first hour of baking time, or else it runs the risk of drying out. The best way to do this is to tent it with foil.

How Long to Bake Ham

Each cut of ham is different, and requires a slightly different cooking time! The goal is to reach the 140°F internal temperature requirement without drying out the meat or overheating it to the point of being tough and chewy.

  • For whole precooked hams that weigh 10-18 pounds, cook at 325°F for 15-18 minutes per pound.
  • For half-precooked hams at 5-10 pounds, cook at 325°F for 18-24 minutes per pound.
  • For spiral-cut precooked hams, cook at 275°F for 10 minutes per pound.

There are so many wonderful ways to cook pork, and to those of us more familiar with beef and chicken, it can be hard to know how to cook pork correctly without it getting tough!
